readme.txt: Vazhe Negar 98 v1.10.016 (SR5) - Crack - Protection: StopCopy Plus, Key Disk, Installation Key Disk Checks -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ How to install and crack, using a copied disk 1 or a disk 1 that has no more authorizations left on it: 1) Copy the provided setup.ins to your disk 1, overwriting the original there. This will defeat the installation key disk checks. 2) Run setup.exe on disk 1 and install as normal. When asked for a ser ial number enter: BarneyFife 3) At the end of the installation, when it asks you to re-insert disk 1 for validation do this: Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Task List Select Vazhe Negar98 Setup Click End Task This must be done because the installer will just keep trying (and failing) to write authorization data to disk 1. 4) Install SR5 (VazheNegar98ServiceRelease5.exe) normally. 5) Copy patch.exe to the program directory and run it to patch the StopCop y library file, scpw32.dll. 6) Enjoy the de-protected program. One side effect of step 3 above is that the uninstaller will likely not work. The installation is not very intrusive anyway, so I don't think it's a b ig deal. Protection Notes ---------------- StopCopy Plus is a stupid commercial protection mechanism. It is only interesting because it creates a thread to examine the application authorization and will terminate the application if a problem is found. A 2 byte change to the protection library to return the correct value to the application (and look-thread) is all that is needed to defeat it. This crack will probably not suffice as a generic StopCopy crack, since the expect return value from the protection call could be any of 256 different values. Saltine 09/18/2001
